The History of Veteran’s Day:
In the USA, Veterans Day falls on the 11th of each year. This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the armistice came into effect, and commemorated for the first time. President Wilson proclaimed the day should be “filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory”.
In 1926, Congress recognized the end of World War I, and declared the anniversary of armistice should be commemorated with prayer and thanksgiving. After World War II, Congress changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.
